Picture Of The Day

For the record, both of these countries have now been eliminated from the World Cup:

President Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron kept their word Saturday and fulfilled a recent bet made on the World Cup match between the United States and England.

The wager, made two weeks earlier, had the leader of the losing country owing beer to the leader of the winning country. But the two teams tied so both men brought beers to the summit and exchanged the items during their bilateral meeting.

Obama presented Cameron with Goose Island 312 beer from Chicago while Cameron gave the President 5.2 percent Hobb Goblin beer.
I think Obama got the better end of that beer swap. It's nice to see our president acting like an actual everyday person rather than some weird joyless teetotaler, isn't it?

Did you see where last Thursday he took Medvedev over to Ray's Hell Burger in Arlington for lunch? It was about 100 degrees in Virginia that day, so they bellied up to the counter in shirt sleeves. I have to be happy with that image - just a couple of years ago, Russia was scared of Bush's wackoness to the point where they were developing new and bigger bombs. Now, they're having a jalapeno burger with Obama. I call that progress.

Are you enjoying the World Cup, JBW?

You'd like my uncle from California JBW. He's a wine snob also. And a good liberal.

He speaks of "nose" and other stuff that supposed to make a good wine. I almost feel guilty that I like Boones Farm.

To answer your question, magpie: a European buddy of mine asked me the other day, "Have you been watching any of the games?" I answered, "No, just the occasional highlights on Sportscenter but if the US happens to make it to the final match I'll go to a pub to watch it with you." He replied, "You know the US is done, right? You lost to Ghana yesterday."

So I suppose I haven't been following it as closely as you have, mate. You guys digging it down under?

Your uncle sounds like my kind of people, T101. He's correct, a wine's nose is a very important part of the experience. And I thought illicit high schoolers were the only one's keeping Boone's Farm in business.

I've long extolled the virtues of Hell Burgers, BkA. Add "international diplomacy" to their list of tasty abilities.

Well the Socceroos are out of it now, even though we won our last game, and Japan went out yesterday to Paraguay on a penalty shoot out in extra time (Mrs Magpie is not happy about that), but yeah we're still digging it.

We had a mid-season split round in the AFL which put half the competition on furlough on alternate weekends, which created enough time for people to give the World Cup a proper look, and soccer is very popular here anyway.

Thanks for the update, magpie. I probably understood about 75% of it.
