America's Political Religious Test

"After his over-hyped and intrusive interviews of Obama and John McCain this last August, the best-selling author of A Purpose-Driven Life disclosed to his congregation at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Ca., the one kind of person he couldn’t vote for. “I could not vote for an atheist because an atheist says, ‘I don’t need God,’” Warren preached, according to the Los Angeles Times. “They’re saying, ‘I’m totally self-sufficient by [myself].’ And nobody is self-sufficient to be president by themselves. It’s too big a job.”' -Heather Mac Donald, Secular Right.org, commenting on Barack Obama's choice of Rev. Rick Warren to give the invocation at his presidential inauguration

Grace, meet everyone here at Brain Rage. Everyone, meet Madame Christian Crazypants. Today she's a neo-Joan of Arc; tune in tomorrow to see which other wacky evangelical chick she channels next!

And Grace, if you were anywhere near sane I'd explain how you completely misread the point of that Sinclair quote but, well you know...

Oh, and my family includes people with several different religious beliefs but none of them ever tried to convert me to their way of thinking; we like to think for ourselves and encourage it in others. Don't worry, I'm not talking about you; just those with the capacity for such.

Re the bad comicbook picture:
The definition of civilization there appears to be factories pouring pollution into the sky?

Warren's comment that an atheist is unsuited to high office is a common notion even among the less frothingly-insane religiously-minded political pundits. The logic goes that they feel that they will not be made to answer for their actions in the afterlife, therefore their actions are liable to be unethical. I would argue that someone who thinks that God is on their side is rather more dangerous because they believe they already have divine approval for their unethical actions, but anyhoo....

Grace...
Joan of Arc was a teenage French girl who was burned alive by Christians like you who thought she was a manifestation of that same and imaginary beast 666 that you are always muttering about. Ponder that a bit...
By the way that happened amidst a war that had gone on for a hundred years between rival dynasties for control of France, and Joan was a flag bearer for armies fighting other Christians.

I'd wrap myself in a flag and carry a cross. In fact, I'll launch a Great Awakening and birth a new nation.

I don't remember Jesus wrapping himself in the flag of the Roman Empire. The empire that put that cross on his back. Now, you say you're on the side of Jesus, but are simultaneously backing the idea of a huge government war machine. Just like the Roman Empire had. I'm sure that gets rationalized somewhere in the pretzel logic, tho.

Good luck on the waking up thing. I'm on my second cup of joe.

Grace: It is the general consensus of the modern scientific community that Joan of Arc was crazier than a shit house rat. That is to say that she was delusional. She experienced what some refer to as "psychological emergencies" in which she believed she was communicating with the supernatural. In her mind, god. After glancing at your blog, I am wondering if you should seek some help.
