I've appreciated their actual animation work since the beginning, but it's only getting better. This one was somewhat of a visual orgasm for me. I'm not sure if you knew this, but I swapped degree programs (from engineering to architecture) at my New Student Conference because I wanted to dive headfirst into the Visualization graduate program. A lot of different things combined to change that course, but - like you and archaelogy - a big part of me still dreams in this vain.
I indeed did not know that; I'd bet that there are several relatively simple programs you could use to create short cartoons like this. You should try making something of your own and email it to some of the bigger names in the blogosphere. Why not?
