Busy, Busy, Busy

No time for blogging today. I'm taking one of my uncharacteristic breaks to help a buddy move into his new place and then I'm going to an A's game with some friends this evening, all while trying to squeeze in a haircut if possible. For all of you Brain Rage junkies who just got the shakes after reading that last sentence, fear not: regular blogging will resume tomorrow.

Josh Womack's Crazy Bat Skills

When I watch Tiger Woods doing his thing with his club I always assume that athletes from other sports probably perform equally impressive time wasting feats with their own equipment. Case in point:

Doug Stanhope: I Hate Baseball

A buddy turned me on to Doug Stanhope's comedy last night and I ran across this short bit from a sports talk radio show that I loved not only because it's funny and true but also because I hate baseball as well:

Vets: Obama Played During Vietnam War

It's been getting pretty ugly lately but I don't think anybody expected this:

WASHINGTON—At a press conference on Monday, members of the Vietnam Veterans Alliance blasted Democratic nominee Barack Obama for his failure to serve in the Southeast Asian war that ended 33 years ago, alleging that during the conflict the candidate frequently engaged in games of T-ball. "While our boys were dying in Vietnam, Barack Obama was running around a little league field, laughing and having fun without a care in the world," VVA spokesman James Lowry said. "John McCain left his wife and three children behind and fought bravely, but I guess Sen. Obama decided that practicing cursive and learning how to ride a bike was just more important than defending his country in her hour of need. I bet he wasn't even able to point out Vietnam on a map." Lowry later speculated that if Obama had been sent over to fight in the conflict, he probably would have peed his pants and cried for his mommy as soon as he touched down in Saigon.

Classic Ferrell

If you're not familiar with former Chicago Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray, please take a few minutes to educate yourself about this now deceased legend of baseball. Done? Ok, now you're ready to appreciate the genius of Will Ferrell in this classic sketch:

They're yelling, "Booooosh"

George W. Bush threw out the first pitch at the home opener for the Washington Nationals yesterday and got the kind of greeting befitting someone with a 30% national approval rating:

To his credit, I have to agree with the announcer that it was probably the best presidential first pitch I've ever seen; many just skip across the plate or are way outside. It should also be noted that the Nationals starting catcher Paul Lo Duca was originally supposed to catch the pitch but for some reason (his 37 mentions in the steroid-laden Mitchell Report, perhaps) he was replaced at the last minute by manager Manny Acta. I'm sure the president's repeated denunciations of performance-enhancing drugs had nothing to do with it though.
