Very nice, JBW. Haven't seen a Tarantino in awhile. Think I'll pick up Kill Bill from the library this week. That's one I haven't seen.

So, is your review of Wolverine in yet? Star Trek opens this week, too.

Thanks, DLB. I work on the weekends so I haven't gotten out to Wolverine yet but I'll have a review soon.

It's all good JBW, Don's got the review up:

Anyway, the movie reviews were so-so, but I love Jackman's Wolverine simply because the dude's hot!Wish he'd just come out of the closet. At least he didn't say, "teh hot."

Star Trek is going to be great. I can feel it.
And I bet it will rock the box office, and the franchise will live long and prosper.

I'm reaching slightly here but... I think it's optimistic and profoundly liberal view of the future is just right for the times now. The original came out of the era of the high frontier and JTK (James Tiberius Kirk) was a slight homage to the image of JFK (if not quite the truth). It's that turn of the wheel.

Liberal haters can enjoy Starship Troopers instead. They won't have a clue that it's satire aimed at them of course...

VZ, I was saying the exact same thing in extolling the virtues of Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future amidst a discussion about organized religion's affect on the world's societies at my book club meeting tonight.

I also own Starship Troopers (much different from the book) and I love it specifically for the WWII satire.

I've read a lot of Heinlein. His early work was remarkable for its times, but his take on politics and society in his later work were... shall we say "interesting". There is also a tendency to hear his voice regardless of which character is talking, like the whole book is his pulpit. I wonder what he would have made of the film.

Trek was a huge influence on me as a kid, pre Star Wars. At every turn there is a constant tolerance of diversity - not just because it's ethical but because it's ultimately the only way to survive and evolve. I wouldn't have been able to articulate that impression back then, of course, I just 'got it'.
That episode with the planet wiped out by war and only two people left, one black and white - and the other white and black... truly kickass television.

I was a Next Generation man as opposed to TOS VZ, but I hear where you're coming from. Roddenberry had a beautiful vision of the future that I still hold out hope for.
