Because there are men who would do the same for no provocation at all.
Early in his career as a cop, my main instructor once slammed a guy up against the wall who'd being punching the crap out of his girlfriend... Said girlfriend promptly stabbed my instructor in the kidneys.
Lesson learned.
Harley Quinn would do that too.
Harley epitomizes every chick I've ever known who put up with being smacked around by their guy, magpie. Fortunately, most of them were a little more stable than the Joker.
