Picture Of The Day

Albert Einstein's desk at Princeton, taken only a few hours after he died in 1955 but never published before last week. My own filing system is very similar.

Tech Break

Apologies for the lack of posting as of late. I just really needed to unplug for a couple of days, plus I was able to finally got everything squared away after moving into my new place. I promise to start reading the news and making asinine comments about it again very soon.

Unpacking Life

Apologies for the lack of posting lately, I'm unpacking everything I own in the world at my new place. I really have too much shit. Most of it's nice though...

Keeping On Moving On

So I've pretty much transferred most of my worldly possessions from one town to the other so now comes the real challenge: Cleaning up my former palatial estate well enough to get my deposit back in full. *shudder* Much love to Intrepid Californio and Jeremy for their help, without whom I would have had to drink all of those beers by myself. Posting may be a bit light for the next week as I try to tie up the rest of these loose ends but I promise that I'll do my best to keep up.

Moving Day

When I was a kid I was a total pack rat. I couldn't bear to throw something away out of some irrational fear that I'd inevitably need it as soon as it was gone. I've gotten a lot better about it since supposedly becoming an adult but I still seem to amass a great deal of shit on a regular basis which suddenly becomes much less valuable to me when I have to actually move it. So now my rule is that if I haven't taken something out of its box and used it since the last time I moved it then it gets trashed without a second thought. I've grown tired of trying to hold on to useless things. Regular posting will resume again tomorrow.

Pack It Up, Pack It In, Let Me Begin...

No time for blogging today. I'm packing up all of my shit to move from the affluent white Northern California suburb that is Danville to the slightly less affluent white Northern California suburb that is Concord. If any readers have any useful moving tips (and I assume that they don't, based on the appalling lack of comments as of date) I'd be quite happy to hear them.

Picture Of The Day

Is anyone surprised by this one?:

Al Capone's jail cell, Eastern State Penitentiary, Philadelphia. High-level gangsters retained amazing power even inside maximum-security penitentiaries. Visiting Frank Costello in prison in the 1950s, lawyer Edward Bennett Williams mentioned that he'd been unable to get tickets to My Fair Lady that evening. "Mr. Williams," the Luciano boss upbraided him, "You should have told me. Maybe I could have helped." Williams thought no more about it and returned to his hotel, where shortly there was a knock at the door. A broad-shouldered man handed Williams four tickets to that evening's performance and silently walked away.
Whenever I watch the movie Goodfellas I always want to go to prison to live the high life...Then I watch the movie American Me and I totally reverse myself..

Bush Spends Day Feverishly Booby-Trapping Desk

The guy is such a scamp:

In preparation for the traditional task of welcoming his successor to the Oval Office, outgoing president George W. Bush canceled all his appointments and press conferences Monday so he could spend the day outfitting his desk with a series of traps, gags, and hair-trigger switches. "Oh, man, is he gonna get it," the president said after rearranging the letters on his computer keyboard and supergluing the direct-line-to-the-Pentagon telephone to its base. "If the 44th president is anything like me, he'll grab this can of peanuts to snack on when he's talking to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and when he does—bam! Right in his face!"

As one of his last official acts in office, Bush reportedly rigged the presidential drawers, chair, and ceiling fan with a number of inconveniencing though harmless devices, including Vaseline-covered pens, fishing-line trip wires, a saltshaker with the top unscrewed, a fake set of nuclear launch codes, an inflated whoopee cushion, and a drawerful of pickles. After backing slowly away from his desk, the president informed his top aides that, if he can get back from the inauguration quickly enough, he also plans to place a bag of canine excrement near the Rose Garden door and set it aflame.

Maybe it's just the frat boy image he projects but the best part about reading this obviously made up story is that I can totally imagine him laughing about some of these things in real life. Less than a week left; I'm going to miss him.

Christmas Deathtrap

Speaking as someone who's old man was a fire chief, taking down your Christmas tree on time is extremely advisable:

Every Girl Ever

I've never really spent much time on the best of Craigslist but many people have told me how entertaining some of the ads there can be, and this classic is no exception. Here's a taste:

Come on in.

Let's start off with the unavoidable tour of my incredibly typical post-college-girl apartment.

You'll notice that I went ahead and purchased everything that Ikea and Pier 1 have ever produced. There's my decorative birdcage over there even though I don't have a bird, and there's my gay wicker basket with bamboo poles in it. I don't know what the hell that's thing's all about, but I bought it.
I was laughing my ass off at this except when I came across actual occurences from dates I've been on; then I really lost my shit! Sad but true.

Han Solo Carbonite Desk

Ever wonder where Boba Fett sits to catch up on his light typing? Well wonder no longer; as this was a custom piece there was no price listed but I'm guessing that it costs much more than most cars I've ever owned.
