Praying For Rain

The Christianist leader James Dobson's Focus on the Family group is encouraging their followers to pray for torrential rain on the day of Barack Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, and I completely agree with them. In fact, I think that everyone who is against Obama should spend as much time as they can praying that he doesn't win the presidency: instead of making phone calls to voters for John McCain (or against Obama, which has basically become the same thing), pray that Obama loses. Instead of canvasing neighborhoods or making campaign donations or even voting against him, just spend as much of your free time as you can praying that he loses. Then later when Obama does win the presidency, explain to me how that's not your god endorsing the man despite your weeks and weeks of solid prayer time:

I've had this talk with some friends. God has no vested interest in the success or demise of the United States of America.

But Jesus is a tall white guy with Anglo features who speaks English with an American accent; surely that's proof enough that the Christian god's backing the red, white and blue. God's a patriot, dammit!

Personaly I am praying that one of those slo-mo lightning bolts would strike this imbecile Stuart Shepard and part his skull during this wished for torrential downpour. Maybe then I'd have a tendency to believe in God, but I'd still vote Obama.
