Bollywood just ain't the same as Hollywood:
Rubina Ali, a child star of the Oscar-winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire,” reacted as she sat on her damaged shack after civic authorities demolished it in Mumbai on Wednesday. (Rafiq Maqbool/Associated Press)Sad. Remember this the next time you hear about some douchebag movie star complaining about anything under the sun. How lucky are we to live here, huh?

That is so sad. I'd heard they went back to the same old life, but this is a step beyone. Maybe the publicity will bring a much needed chane.
...and remember it too when WE complain about anything.
Too true, magpie. I should have made that point as well but the idiot at Starbucks obviously wasn't paying attention when I told him light whip on my orange mocha frappuccino earlier today and I'm still pretty upset about it. Life is hard.
I went and read about this girl as a result of your post. It sounds like she was paid 3 years' worth of wage for one month of work and they've set up an additional trust fund for her once she turns 18. I'm not saying this is right or wrong, just throwing some extra facts out there.
If they'd made Philadelphia Millionaire and based the movie on Will Smith/The Fresh Prince, they wouldn't have to deal with all these critics and skeptics because it would be a happy ending.
I'm just saying.
Outsourcing, one L. Whattaya gonna do?
OneLBill,
Don't forget that there were rising standards of living even amongst slaves, back in the day. Does that necessarily justify slavery?
Just because they got paid a little more than the average slum dweller, doesn't indicate much, other than, well they could paid slightly more.
Exploitation is what it is, EXPLOITATION. "Outsourcing", is just a fancy bureaucratic term, for "you have no fucking choice but to except our wage, or die shitting on the streets........."
Morals and values, neo-con fundie style......good times huh! :)
Cheers
