"There is something striking about how rigorously theocons apply Vatican teaching to questions of private individuals' sexual and emotional relationships and how loosely they apply it when it comes to tempering right-wing governments from embracing torture, economic inequality, the death penalty and pre-emptive war." -Andrew Sullivan, The Daily Dish, commenting on the tendency of religious neoconservatives to seek out loopholes in Just War theory

Amen.
First Grace, thank you for restraining your more loquacious impulses lately. It was getting to be a bit much there for a while.
Second, you obviously missed the point of Sullivan's quotation. You ignore the fact that the mere existence of economic inequality is vastly different from a government's embracing of such as a matter of policy so that you can blithely accuse someone of "Communism!" as if you were Joseph McCarthy or Ann Coulter. I know you guys had fun doing that in the fifties but the big kids are talking now.
And addressing your hacky attempt at political commentary: the "losers" in the last election had R's after their names. Your side fucked up for 8 years and America got tired of it. Deal with it.
Grace, the United States has practiced "wealth redistribution" for hundreds of years: it's called governmental taxation and spending. And as I said, the American people must like what they're hearing because he'll soon be your president.
Grace, we have a graduated income tax. Is that news to you? Commie is just a fun word the right has found handy in ill-fated attempts to derail Baracks candidacy. Here's some more news for you - it didn't work. Nobody is saying there shouldn't be differentiated pay for differentiated work. However, America has embraced (yes, embraced, or are November results news as well?) the idea that those who enjoy large incomes should be paying more that those who don't. Hard work generally leads to higher income - assuming a higher income is what you're working towards - but our economy needs lower income positions as much as it needs $500K/yr sales positions. It would be great if we could all make half a mil a year, but that's impossible.
Leave it to the right to take a piece of liberal theory, apply it in an extreme, nonsensical way, then accuse the left of having hairbrained thoughts. If you were an overweight, middle aged white guy with a drug problem, you'd have a future in radio!
Booyah! Thanks for stepping in, BD; my temples were starting to throb from the crazy.
Grace, you refused to take me up on a bet of all our worldly possessions over the supposed Apocalypse; how about one over the United States splitting up because of Obama? It's about as likely to happen.
You seem pretty confident on this one as well and if you're wrong we'll still have a social safety net to care for you and your children when I sell your house. That's win-win.
Alright, I'm tired of hearing this: nobody here has endorsed communism and the only one shouting about it is you, Grace. As I said, you obviously missed the point of the post. Save the right wing prosthelytizing for your own site and let it go.
Again Grace, you've written enough that I've stopped reading the majority of it. I don't endorse communism and neither has Obama "signed on for it". As I said, your political views on this subject are as deluded as your views on religion. I'm done discussing this.
Obama is a Scientologist. He's gonna spread Chef's chocolate salty balls across this great nation and ruin us all. You can disagree and tell me I'm wrong but I fully believe it and you cannot convince me otherwise. Time will tell.
Exactly, BD.
Put 'em in your mouth! Put 'em in your mouth and suck 'em and suck 'em.
Prior to the enactment of the income tax, most citizens were able to pursue their private economic affairs without the direct knowledge of the government.
The government didn't seem to have much knowledge of what Bernie Madoff was doing either. Regulation, shmegulation.
Didn't realize you were a libertarian, Grace. Big supporter of Ron Paul, were you?
