Barack Obama: Comic Fanboy

As if the guy wasn't cool enough already:

The Barack Obama rage has now taken the comic world by storm. Reportedly the president will feature along with the superhero 'Spiderman'. The fact that the US-president elect was a Spidey collector as a kid, has inspired the Marvel Comics to feature the 'icon' for the children's book.

"When we read that we thought, 'Oh my God the future Commander-in-chief is actually the future nerd-in-chief,' the New York Daily News quoted Joe Quesada, Marvel's top editor, as saying. "With a geek in the White House , we just had to give him a shout back. It's just the coolest thing ever," Quesada added.

The new edition of the comic will hit the stands with Obama and Spiderman on the cover. The story is about the mild mannered photographer Peter Parker, who spots two Obamas on inauguration day, as reported by news.com.au. He later transforms into the superhero and rescues the real Obama.

I find the existence of superheroes more believable than this pablum you're spewing. Learn a new tune already.

Grace: I love you sister. And as a Christian, I forgive you for wishing our fellow Christian, President Elect Obama, burns in hell. Jesus loves you too Grace.

T101, please don't encourage the "fire and brimstone" nonsense; she was doing so well.

So you want a "cool" president.

How very juvenile.

My idea of a president is Charles de Gaulle or Ronald Reagan. Yes, a Franklin Delano Roosevelt. All three exuded dignity, majesty, and respect.

"Coolness" wasn't part of it.

Reagan wouldn't even take his suit jacket off in the oval office. This is the level of respect he had for the institution.

In his book "The Edge of the Sword" de Gaulle speaks of real leadership.

Not "coolness"

Duty. Honor. Country.

Laugh if it entertains you. Gen. Douglas MacArthur had words for those who do:

"The unbelievers will say they are but words, but a slogan, but a flamboyant phrase. Every pedant, every demagogue, every cynic, every hypocrite, every troublemaker, and I am sorry to say, some others of an entirely different character, will try to downgrade them even to the extent of mockery and ridicule."

He knew a thing or two about leadership. "Coolness" wasn't part of it.

Clinton degraded the office with actions we need not discuss. Will Obama do likewise? Not in Clinton's way, of course, but he needs to stop this business of wearing a baseball hat backwards and allowing himself to be seen shirtless. He needs to tell these comic book people to cut it out.

There is the cult worship of Obama, but that's a topic for another day.

It's all a matter of respect, not just for the office but for oneself. Let's have some with our President.

I respect cool. Teddy Roosevelt was cool. Ike was cool in a nerdy way. Kennedy was cool. Andrew Jackson and George Washington were cool. I'd say Obama is in good company Redhunter.

Tom, I consider making up cute little fascist nicknames for your online persona juvenile, and dinosaurs like you that can't fathom being both respectful and cool deserve to be extinct.

Oh, and it's a universal rule: if you put parenthesis around the word "cool" in a derogatory manner, you ain't cool. It's also a pretty good indicator of being a humorless douche, but I don't want to sound juvenile so I'll let it slide.

Tom,

From a conservative American pov... Charles de Gaulle was often a jerk.

He covered up the 1961 Paris Massacre. Naughty.
Went to China 8 years before Nixon did. Interesting...
Said the US should get out of Vietnam as early as 1966. Ooo...

But his really interesting act was to fuck Israel up the ass. Days before the 6 day war which could have been the slaughterhouse death of Israel, he has an arms embargo slapped on the country. How would you be if a US president did that ??
The IDF primarily used French fighters, and he blocked a shipment that the Israelis had already paid for. This is one of the reasons Israel turned to America as its primary military donor.

Obama uses the modes of popular appeal that are OF OUR TIMES. It's as simple as that. He is a smart politician.

This wistful Right-wing pining for some fossilized 50's male image of a president is a one-way ticket to irrelevance.
When will conservatives get over it?
It's like half disapproving old maid - half jealous schoolgirl. It's just ... dumb.
Go get some damned policies instead, and see how you go with that.
