Limbaugh: "I Hope He Fails"

Comedian Rush Limbaugh is fast becoming Coulter-esque sputtering things like this:

Barack Obama has not yet taken office, and Rush Limbaugh is already rooting for his failure. On his radio show last Friday, Limbaugh said, "I disagree fervently with the people on our [Republican] side of the aisle who have caved and who say, 'Well, I hope he succeeds.'"

Limbaugh told his listeners that he was asked by "a major American print publication" to offer a 400-word statement explaining his "hope for the Obama presidency." He responded:

"So I'm thinking of replying to the guy, 'Okay, I'll send you a response, but I don't need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails.' (interruption) What are you laughing at? See, here's the point. Everybody thinks it's outrageous to say. Look, even my staff, 'Oh, you can't do that.' Why not? Why is it any different, what's new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what's gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it? I don't care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: 'Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.' Somebody's gotta say it."

It takes a special kind of stupid to take this big fat idiot's performance art seriously. What's really disturbing though is that this guy is the biggest name in conservative radio bar none, millions and millions of people listen to him everyday and he is being paid $400 million over the next 8 years (yes, those numbers are correct) to say things like this.

Over the past several years we were told by the right that we need to support our president in a time of war and that to do anything less was unpatriotic. And then during the election I listened to so many Republicans telling me how unpatriotic Obama was for not wearing a flag pin or covering his heart during the pledge of allegiance. And now their biggest entertainer has openly called for the failure of his presidency, and by extension: the failure of America. This is the modern Republican party.

I promised myself that I was going to refrain from using the phrase "Obama Derangement Syndrome" for the next 4-8 years because people on the right sounded so pathetic saying it about W as if it were some kind of valid argument but it's going to be tough with this crowd, and this is just his second day!

Dude I hate Rush as much as any liberal does. He's an idiot. And thanks for the asshole remark. I always figured if you're going to be something then be the best at it. I see you read my about me stuff but did you take the time to read any of the blog itself? I'lltell you I'm pro-choice but I'm pro-gun. I'm almost ok with socialized medicene except for the socialized part. I'm all for freedom of speech even for the idiots like Rush. Seems to me the liberals are against it not only do they attack him when he speaks they would prefer he not speak at all. So much for the Bill of Rights. I do thank you however for not blocking my comments like so many other liberal bloggers do. I myself will let anyone say any thing in my comments section. Ya know freedom of speech.

Let's all be honest here: This isn't the modern republican party. This is just a dumb, fat addict trying to get ratings. Ask my wife about the sweet Rush sweatshirt she wore in high school. That's not just bad politics, that's bad fashion.

BD, the modern Republican party has pretty much stated that they don't want minorities or gays within their ranks and that they were pretty much OK with McCain and Palin saying whatever it took to win about Obama. Patriotism is a narrow, one way street for these people and they are going to have to either reinvent themselves in the very near future or die as a viable political party.

That said, does your wife give you shit for the high school mullet in return? Glass houses, my friend...

Trash, it's not that I would prefer he not speak at all, just that millions not take what he says so seriously. And this blog is a free speech zone, within the bounds of civility of course.

I agree with you on all of the issues you listed here but your blanket condemnation of all liberals and your outright hatred of Obama still make me suspect that you're an asshole. That's cool: I'm pretty much a dick myself, the difference being that I don't shit on everything.

He "hopes" that millions of American lose their livelihoods, homes, any chance of a bright personal future, and many their lives in some sandy hellhole in the Middle-east? Or would he be happy with another 9-11?

My what fond regard he has for his fellow citizens... Did the reporter who took down Limbaugh's words challenge him on what his definition of "fail" would be?

First heard Limbaugh on Far East Network radio, asserting that women are biologically less capable of rational thought in public issues than men. I thought "this is not a skit is it? this idiot is for real..."

Thanks for the link, some of the comments there on the Washington Monthly are an amusing read..
I liked this one "Let this be a lesson to you, kids: Snorting hillbilly heroin and popping Viagra makes you stupid and mean."

Just my opinion here. I think what Rush meant is he hoped Obama would fail at turning America into a socialist country. Just my take on it. There's really no telling what the fat headed idiot meant.

If he is taken to task properly that may indeed be what he will claim, Trashman, but I think his spite is more general than that.

Plus, like so many bigots - he thinks it smart to say something stupid because it lends him bonehead credibility... the flip side of the same sort of inverted reasoning that sought to portray Obama's intelligence and academic achievements as something to be suspicious of.
